Derrick Carter is an influential DJ, producer, and remixer pivotal to Chicago house music's development. Starting at age nine spinning disco, he became a fixture in Chicago's underground scene by his teens, working at Gramophone Records. His career took off in the late '80s with releases on Cajual Records under various aliases like Sound Patrol and Red Nail. In 1995, he co-founded Classic Music Company with Luke Solomon. Known for eclectic sets blending house, disco, soul, and jazz.
