Jay Cunning's been in the mix since day one. He caught the bug young and started spinning tunes back in '89 in the halcyon days of Acid House. Since then he's tarted about and flirted with various styles of 'Hardcore', 'House', 'D'n'B' and 'Garage'. He started to consolidate this jockey sluttage in 1996 when he found himself teaming up with Royce & Paul Saint to form 'Just Pure Rhythm' for the seminal breakbeat production "The Situation". Difficult though it was for a man with such a roving musical eye, Jay opted for a bit of monogamy and settled down with 'Breakbeat'. Being faithful soon paid off, and 1999 Jay took up a successful residency on the infamous pirate station Breaks FM 103.2. But ultimately, you can't keep a good man down, old habits die hard and leopard's don't have a reputation for changing their spots - hence when his old flame 'Old Skool' came calling in February 2000 he become co-creator of Patchwork, a unique and nostalgic club night which went on to see successful nights and collaborations with promoters like Hi-Rise and KinkyMalinky. Always one to stick his finger in any available pie - in 2001 Jay teamed up with Ian Davy of Backroom Records to bring a monthly 'Breakbeat' night called 'Global:beats', and when a year later Breaks FM re-launched on the internet, Jay became part owner and runner of the station. As word's spread of Jay's versatility he's been able to put it about across the world from Russia to Romania, Spain to Canada, from the Big Apple to Asia, and even crossing the musical rubicon to the Babylon that is Brixton… But, you can never have too much of a good thing, so alongside the '3 decks wizardy', Jay's recently teamed up with some the scene's best producers including 2 Sinners, Smithmonger & Atomic Hooligan. 2004 has started off full steam ahead with Jay joining forces with Atomic Hooligan to form 'Menu Music', a concept that focus's on throwing up big parties with big party tunes. As a label, 'Menu' focuses on the making breakbeat party tunes - an unashamed move to get the girls shaking their thang on the dance floor, the showpiece of 'Menu' is a '7 Decks and FX' show with live beatbox MC's Xander which see's them regularly at St Petersburg's Tunnel Club, the annual TM Base festival in Romania and festivals and clubs all over the World. In addition to this Jay's been regular stand in for Tayo's Kiss FM show and has started a monthly residency at Andy C's Ram seminal Drum n Bass nite at 'The End' in London, playing the breakbeat set alongside the likes of Brian G, Phantasy, Ray Keith and Danny Breaks. In addition to the Ram family Jay is heading up the A&R for Ancy C's Breakbeat label Raw 24
