John Digweed is one of the most influential DJs and producers in electronic dance music history. Born in 1967 in Hastings, UK, he began DJing at age 15 and quickly made a name for himself organizing legendary raves on Hastings Pier featuring artists like Carl Cox and The Prodigy. His career breakthrough came in 1993 when a mixtape demo caught the attention of Sasha, sparking a groundbreaking partnership that would revolutionize progressive house music. Together, Sasha & John Digweed created the first commercially successful nightclub compilation, "Renaissance: The Mix Collection" (1994), and held a pioneering monthly residency at New York's Twilo, becoming the first British DJs to do so. Digweed reached the pinnacle of his profession when DJ Magazine voted him World #1 DJ in 2001. Beyond his DJ work, Digweed has been equally influential as a producer, label owner, and promoter. His production partnership with Nick Muir under the Bedrock alias produced club hits including "For What You Dream Of" (featured in the film "Trainspotting") and "Heaven Scent." In 2000, he launched Bedrock Records, which has become synonymous with quality and integrity, launching the careers of artists like Danny Howells, Jimmy Van M, and Chris Fortier. His Transitions radio show on Kiss 100 (2000-2011) achieved cult status globally, and his extensive remix work has included tracks by Underworld, New Order, and Danny Tenaglia. Throughout his decades-long career, Digweed has maintained an unwavering commitment to underground dance culture while achieving mainstream success, cementing his legacy as a true pioneer of electronic music.
