Mattie Safer is a singer, bassist, producer, and DJ best known for his work with Poolside and as a founding member of The Rapture, where he helped shape the sound of NYC’s early 2000s dance-punk explosion. His current solo project, lovetempo, draws from a deep love of soul, disco, house, and jazz-funk, delivering emotionally rich dance music with groove-driven arrangements and lyrical depth. With acclaimed releases on Razor-N-Tape, toucan sounds, and Too Slow To Disco, lovetempo has earned support from Gilles Peterson, BBC 6Music, KCRW, and Jazz FM. Recent singles like “Maybe In Another Life” and “Live Or Die By Love” have appeared on Spotify playlists including ‘Pollen,’ ‘Jazz House,’ and ‘Metropolis,’ while remixes by artists like Eric Kupper, Crackazat, and Bosq have reimagined the sound for global dancefloors. Safer’s DJ sets move fluidly through deep house, disco, soul edits, and leftfield club grooves, with recent appearances in NYC, LA, Mexico City, and San Francisco. He also contributed a mix to Razor-N-Tape’s Apple Music DJ series.
